YOUR HELP NEEDED!
The Lane County timber industry is under fire by the liberal members on the Lane County Board of Commissioners. The Democratic commissioners on the Lane County’s BOC are pressing hard to defund Lane County’s membership in the Association of O & C Counties, a valuable organization that represents Lane County’s interests on timber issues in Washington D.C.
Please read below and take action:
June 11, 2019
Today, the Lane County Board of Commissioners (BOC) bowed to anti-forestry groups and voted to remove funding for the Association of O&C Counties from its adopted budget. This anti-forestry vote was supported by Commissioner Pete Sorensen as well as first-term Commissioners Joe Berney and Heather Buch, both of whom have a significant forest industry presence in their districts. Commissioner Pat Farr also voted in favor, but only as a parliamentary move to revisit the issue during the next Board of Commissioners meeting on June 18.
We sincerely thank Commissioner Farr and and Commissioner Jay Bozievich for fighting for forestry and the truth, and working hard to correct the blatant lies and misleading statements that have been spread by these groups. We thank those who contacted the BOC and especially Lane Families for Farms and Forests (LFFF) for leading the charge locally. Thanks to these efforts, in May, the Lane County Budget Committee had defeated a similar anti-forestry motion by a vote of 7 to 2. Unfortunately, today brought a different outcome.
If you think Lane County forestry is worth fighting for, here are some things you can do:
–Click here to send an email, expressing your disappointment in today’s vote and asking they reconsider. We have a pre-drafted message that you should feel free to customize.
-Call (541) 682-4203 and ask to speak to your commissioner and provide your opinion directly.
-Attend the Board of Commissioners meeting on June 18, starting at 9:00 am.
-If you haven’t already, join Lane Families for Farms and Forests, and get involved as attacks on local forestry will only continue.
Once again, groups want to dismantle AOCC because it has been an effective voice for Oregon forestry. As the only county association that focuses on federal Bureau of Land Management O&C lands, AOCC and its commissioners work proactively with Oregon’s congressional delegation to promote forest management solutions and ensure O&C counties receive the funding they deserve to sustain essential services, such as Sheriff patrols.
If these groups are successful, Lane County will lose an essential voice in O&C land management. So will our communities that have suffered economically and socially from the decline in federal timber harvests starting in the early 1990’s. And so will Lane County’s forest sector, which continues to provide 7,400 family wage jobs within the county. Today’s vote was a bad outcome for Lane County forestry. Whether the fight continues is up to us.
Dear PCPs and Fellow Republicans:
My, how time just rushes by when you’re busy. Upcoming events in July include the Lane County fair booth, which needs to be put together and manned, a July 4th parade in Creswell and a golf tournament that is just about ready to take off like a rocket. Everyone is working hard but we need someone to organize the fair booth and the Creswell Parade. Please volunteer. We need your help.
We have a beautiful new web page constructed by one of our skilled and knowledgeable volunteers who would like to remain anonymous. Thank you! You know who you are! The new website address is <www.lanecountygop.org>. Please stop by and take a look! A calendar of events is posted and will soon have a registration form for the golf tournament available to fill out on-line also.
We are still active in Salem and with the OregonPushBack.com campaign. Thank you, Mark Cosby, for organizing and spending time, materials and fuel out of your own pocket to do that.
The Lane County Republican Central Committee had a great meeting on the 6th of June. We passed a budget with a new office in mind, a place to gather, visit and pick up tools needed to help win elections. I have been visiting with different groups around the county to give them an idea about what we are doing and what is coming up. The month of July is just jammed, starting on the first week with the parade in Creswell, then the 4-day event at the Eugene Pro Rodeo and the Lane County Fair booth. There is a sign-up sheet on our website and you can choose the events you would like to participate in. The early bird signers get first pick of the rodeo and fair booth shifts!
We still need your help in time investment and donations. Check the calendar for the events we have planned: the picnic in August, the golf tournament, Bohemia Mining Days and many more. The Republicans are back to stay, and ready, willing and able to get President Trump re-elected. I pray you all have a great upcoming month and that you keep us in mind.
